AN OPEN LETTER FROM NATIONAL PRESIDENT MIKE LANGFORD
TO
ALL MEMBERS OF LOCAL 132
April 10, 2009
Dear Brothers &
Sisters:
I have appointed VP
John Duffy as trustee to take control over Local 132.
Accompanying this letter is the full Decision of the National
Executive Committee on the issue of trusteeship and on related charges
regarding misconduct by Local 132 President Louis Correa which was either
ignored or supported by a majority of the Local 132 Board. If
your schedule allows, I urge that you read this Decision cover to
cover.
In summary, Correa
admitted several major violations of democratic practices, as well as
financial malpractice. Some
members of the Local 132 Board protested this misconduct.
But a majority of the Local 132 Board went along with this
misconduct. Moreover, Local
132=s
failure to timely process grievances and arbitrations has grown to the
point where the rights and protections of the members are at risk.
A trusteeship is
absolutely necessary to restore democratic practices; to prevent financial
malpractice; and to make sure that the Local 132 collective bargaining
agreement is enforced. These
purposes can only be achieved with the support and participation of the
members of Local 132.
We are one Union, and
we are all in this together. The
National was there for the members when you had to mobilize and fight for
a fair contract. The National
will be there for you now; to fix these problems and restored Local 132 to
full autonomy.
Fraternally,
D. Michael Langford
