SUMMARY
OF ARTICLE 6, SECTION 6.8
1.
Receive complaint from member or Steward.
2.
Discuss dispute with management, spell out dispute as well as possible.
Attempt to reach remedy and then request grievance investigation time.
3.
Investigate issue thoroughly. Meet
with member and /or steward, research past practice, shop committee agreements
or previous similar cases and make information requests.
4.
Once contractual violation is outlined and management is not willing to
resolve the dispute, the Union files a grievance on a standard mulitcopy
grievance form within 90 calendar days.
a) Mail the form to the appropriate people as indicated on the
bottom left hand corner.
5.
Company position on issues raised in the complaint due within 10 working
days.
6.
Union request for grievance meeting due within 10 working days if answer
unsatisfactory to the Union.
7.
Company schedules first step grievance meeting to discuss dispute within
10 working days of receipt of Union’s request for grievance meeting
8.
Grievance meeting held. Union
and Company attempt to resolve the issues in dispute.
9.
Management responds with their decision within 10 working days following
first step grievance meeting.
a) If management’s
response is not satisfactory immediately send a copy of the first step
response to the union office. Mark it attention Business Agent and list your
name and phone number to be reached. If possible give a brief explanation of why
management’s response is not satisfactory. At that point the Business Agent
will contact you, discuss the grievance and prepare a second step request.
10.
Union requests second step grievance meeting within 10 working days of
receiving management’s decision.
11.
Management schedules second step grievance meeting within 10 working days
following Union’s request.
12.
Second step grievance meeting held.
13.
Management responds to Union within 10 working days following conclusion
of second step grievance meeting.
a)
The Union will mail you a copy of the second step response.
b) If management’s response to the second step is not
satisfactory you may notify the union office best by telephone immediately.
c) The grievance review committee will review the case and make
a recommendation to the Executive Board.
d) The Executive Board will vote on your case at the next
Executive Board meeting and will notify the Company in writing with a request to
arbitrate the issue.
14.
Union has 20 calendar days to request arbitration following
management’s decision from the second step grievance meeting.
a) The Union will request any time extensions necessary in order to facilitate the review and request for arbitration as defined by the contract
